Art-Inspired Hospitality: Boutique Airbnb Apartments in Votanikos, Athens
Votanikos is one of the most culturally vibrant, evolving neighborhoods in central Athens. Historically recognized for its unique blend of industrial architecture and classic residential streets, this dynamic area serves as the perfect canvas for forward-thinking short-term rental design.
I recently photographed a stunning four-apartment complex in the heart of the district, custom-conceptualized by the owners, Thomais and Costas, specifically to cater to travelers looking for an authentic, design-forward Athenian stay.
The Concept: Four Suites, Four Master Artists
The soul of this project lies in the brilliant artistic concept developed by Thomais. Rather than adopting a uniform, sterile look often seen in generic short-term accommodations, she curated four distinct, cozy suites, each acting as a visual homage to a legendary modernist Greek artist.
Every unit features a completely tailored layout, material selection, and color palette dictated by the master it honors:
The Fassianos Suite: Channeling the painter's signature cobalt blues, rich ochres, and fluid, poetic human forms that evoke a sense of freedom and Mediterranean warmth.
The Takis Suite: Embracing a sleek, structural aesthetic inspired by kinetic art, utilizing crisp lines and modern spatial balance to emphasize a sophisticated, minimalist look.
The Moralis Suite: Focused on linear harmony, geometric interplay, and a refined, architectural color palette of balanced neutral tones and subtle, elegant contrasts.
The Gaitis Suite: Playful, graphic, and highly structured, drawing clear inspiration from his famous repeating "little men" (anthropakia) with bold contrasts and precise interior details.
Photographing the Convergence of Art and Architecture
From an interior architectural photography perspective, this shoot was an incredibly rewarding puzzle. Because each room tells an entirely unique aesthetic story, I tailored my camera angles and lighting setups to match the specific artistic mood of each individual space.
Carving Out Unique Space Identities
Using an advanced architectural workflow, my focus was on isolating the specific color dynamics and bespoke interior decorations that Thomais curated. The compact, cozy nature of boutique urban apartments requires careful composition to maximize perceived space. I utilized clean, straight leading lines and wide-angle architectural framing to highlight the functionality of the rooms while accentuating their artistic warmth.

Marketing the Short-Term Rental Experience
High-end hospitality properties live and die by their visual presence online. In a saturated market like central Athens, modern travelers are looking for an experience, not just a place to sleep. By accurately capturing both the grand room layouts and the micro-details of the art-centric design, this visual library gives Thomais and Costas a highly competitive marketing asset to instantly captivate design-conscious guests browsing platforms like Airbnb.
