Fashion & Lifestyle Photography: Koku Concept in Aegina
Since 2009, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Maria and Ilena Kokkou, the creative duo behind Koku Concept. With backgrounds from world-class institutions like Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion, the sisters have built a lifestyle brand that is a unique fusion of high-end textile design and practical, vibrant fashion.
For this specific project, we aimed to capture the "Greek Island Vibe" that inspires their collections. We took the production to the picturesque corners of Aegina, creating a series of styled images that reflect the playful, humorous, and high-quality personality of the brand.
Chasing the Aegina Light
As with all my location shoots, efficiency and light are the priorities. We departed from the Port of Piraeus pre-dawn to ensure we were on the island and ready as the sun broke. This commitment to early-morning natural light allows us to capture the bright, happy colors of the Koku accessories—from their signature bags to their home decor—in their most authentic state.
By starting early, we maximize our production time, allowing us to cover multiple "looks" and locations across the island in a single day, ensuring the brand has a rich library of content for their website and international boutiques in the UK, USA, and Japan.
From City Streets to Koku Mare
The Koku universe extends beyond fashion into Koku Mare, their yachting-focused line. Photographing these pieces requires a specific "architectural" eye for detail, as they are designed for the unique spatial restraints of life at sea. My experience in yacht photography allows me to document these functional, elegant objects in a way that highlights their craftsmanship and their ability to integrate naturally into the rhythm of onboard life.
Boutique Branding & Styled Shoots
Whether I am working with the full production team at the Koku studio or doing a styled shoot on a remote beach, my goal is to deliver imagery that is both fashionable and practical. I focus on the textures of the printed textiles and the vibrancy of the colors, ensuring the "Concept" in Koku is felt in every frame.
